With 12 years as a professional hairstylist in Japan — including 7 years as salon manager at one of the country's top salons — I moved to Singapore and spent another 7 years at SHUNJI MATSUO HAIR STUDIO, working closely with clients every single day.

Working in a Singapore salon opened my eyes to something I had never encountered in Japan. The humidity, hard water, and tropical climate were causing a completely different set of hair and scalp challenges — frizz that wouldn't settle, scalp issues triggered by the heat, problems that Japanese products alone couldn't always solve.

As a fellow Asian, I had always believed that Japanese haircare was uniquely suited to Asian hair. But experience taught me that not every Japanese product is the right fit for Singapore's climate.
